On the other hand, Afridi is insufferably infuriating. I thoroughly enjoyed what was, to me, one of the archetypal Afridi performances when, at Lord’s in 2010,
recalled to the Test team for the first time in four years, and as captain no less, he was caught at cow corner off his fourth ball. Off the bowling of Marcus North.
In a fourth-innings run chase. He then told the press “with my temperament I can’t play Test cricket†and quit the game for good.
Others, those who have an emotional investment in the success of the side, seemed, surprisingly, somewhat less amused by it all.
