(CNN) -- Robin Williams was sober but was struggling with depression, anxiety and the early stages of Parkinson's disease when he died, his widow said Thursday.

The diagnosis of the progressive illness was "an additional fear and burden in his life," a person familiar with Williams' family told CNN on Thursday.
Parkinson's disease, depression linked?

Williams was found dead in his Northern California home Monday from what investigators suspect was a suicide by hanging.

While fans and friends have looked for answers to why the 63-year-old comedy icon would take his own life, his wife, Susan Schneider, issued a written statement about Williams' health that he had kept a secret.

I couldn't believe the news when I saw it.  He was a  great person and a great actor.  I don't know why but when I watched him in the series the Crazy Ones, I felt there was something a little off about him.  In any case I was most surprised at his age; for some reason I thought he was way older than that.  Not necessarily a good thing.  Also, I was quickly reminded of the Louie episode where he guest stars, makes a dark episode even darker now. Link to episode.

I couldn't believe the news that he passed away. I just finished seeing the movie "Angriest Man in Brooklyn', and incidentally in the film he is a father about to die. Its yet to be determined what actually caused this action. Its so odd, I always associated him with laughter, but to know that he was suffering from depression. I liked his movie Mrs. Doubtfire when I was a kid. Its really sad. A big loss.
