Gayle has been replaced by 21-year-old opener Kennar Lewis, who after fairly average returns since making his regional debut in 2011 was overlooked by the national selectors last season.
Lewis, one of two batsmen named as reserves - the other being Danza Hyatt - was the top runscorer during the recent five-match national Super50 trials.
