The Tasmania Tigers have bolstered their spinning ranks with the astute signing of 23 year old Clive Rose.

The former Bushranger is seen as a possible replacement for Xavier Doherty when he retires in the coming years.

His left-arm orthodox has been highly successful in the junior ranks, with Rose representing Australia at the under-19 World Cup in 2008.

Rose featured in a handful of games for Victoria in all three formats in 2012. His debut was a strange one for the tweaker, who opened the bowling; a move rarely seen at the MCG. He went wicketless, and then smashed an unbeaten 23 from just 22 deliveries.

His next assignment was a clash against NSW at North Sydney Oval. Spinners dread coming to the ground, and it turned into a bowler’s nightmare with 702 runs scored. Rose was expensive (as expected) but did claim the wicket of Steve Smith for 92.

Rose went wicketless in his most recent Ryobi Cup clash, but did pick up a wicket against the English Lions.

In what would turn out to be his final match for Victoria, Rose got his only taste of first-class cricket. He picked up three wickets in the first innings, but had to play second fiddle to fellow spinner Fawad Ahmed, whose five wickets sealed a comfortable win.

Still developing as a cricketer, Rose will gain valuable experience playing in Hobart. With players like Doherty in the squad, Rose should be able to enhance his game in the next few months.

i answer my own question, he's Pakistani

Clive Rose, from Casey South Melbourne, is the only player of Pakistani heritage playing Premier cricket in Victoria.
