THE #6 BATTING POSITION IN TESTS - Rev Al - 11-07-2013

The #6 batting position is a pivotal position. And it must be occupied by a bonafide batsman. Last night India was struggling at 83/5, the #6 batsman(Rohit Sharma 127*)  then rode to the rescue. In the past the West Indies had the great Sobers bat at #6---he averaged 53.34 in 42 tests; the outstanding Shiv Chanderpaul also averaged 65.94 in 38 tests at the #6 position. But in the past decade you have had a proven failure like Dwane Bravo bat at #6---in 33 tests he averaged a mediocre 26.61. Right now the WI #6 is Denesh Ramdin---the wicketkeeper.

THE WEST INDIES NEEDS TO PLAY A BATSMAN AT THE #6 POSITION---not a Ramdin or a Sammy or a proven failure like Dwayne Bravo.

The WI got away with playing 5 specialist batsmen against bottom feeders Zimbabwe and Bangladesh----that wont work against the higher ranked teams.
