Former West Indies offspinner, Lance Gibbs, believes that the West Indies need to build their current team around Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the West Indies batsman, if Test success is to come into the frame once more, as November's India tour looms.

Since 39 year old Shiv Chanderpaul's goal is to surpass George Headley as the oldest cricketer ever to play for the West Indies----Headley was 45 when he played his last test in 1954----it makes sense for the WI to continue to build around the great man.

What the world sees in Shiv Chanderpaul is amazing WILLPOWER!
That is a quality or a skill that is lacking among young West Indies players.
Listen! Willpower is not something that gets handed to you. It's a skill that is developed through practice.
At age 39 Shiv is still passionate about his game and practices harder than any other WI player.
And so it's not surprising that Shiv is the #2 ranked test batsman in the world, while the next ranked WI batsman is Samuels at a distant #17.
SHIV HAS MORE WILLPOWER THAN ALL THE PLAYERS IN THE WI TEAM COMBINED.

Lance indicated that Chanderpaul's experience and talent are the right ingredients :
to nourish younger batsmen such as Kirk Edwards and Darren Bravo in the subcontinent.
With the likes of Narsingh Deonarine impressing during the present A team tour in India,
Gibbs reiterated that there was a good blend of youth and experience
