Sometimes a study is conducted that results in a conclusion so unsuspected that the ensuing frenzy shuts down the Internet and prompts a total reimagining of the circumstance that was being investigated. Other times, study results are met with a collective, "duh!"
Like this recent study from St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto and its Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute which determined that cheque-cashing stores target low income, high-crime neighbourhoods.
Dr. Joel Ray, the study's author, compared the density of cheque-cashing places in Toronto with crime data and found them to be seven times more common in high-crime areas.
