its all about how a government experiment went wrong and subjects of the experiment were turned into Zombies/Vampires. something happened at the secret compound and the 12 subjects escaped and terrorized the towns, cities, states.....eventually the entire North American continent.
Pockets of humanity survived - the book is about how the humans survived against the zombies.
