Another stereotype is the "black man can't focus long enough for test cricket" stereotype, yet Gayle and Lara have 300s and 500s.
But there have been actual studies on the body shapes of the world's best test batsmen. If you look at the shapes of Ponting, Tendulkar and Lara, they're all of very similar builds and heights, the length of their arms optimized, able to generate the right blend of power and speed. Tall and bulky seems a detriment to test batsmen - in many ways, Gayle's an anomaly - though this may change with time; look how the body shape of tennis champions slowly shifts over the years.
The horrible thing about these kinds of biological discussions is how deterministic - not "racist" - it all is. There becomes an underlying assumption that bio-genetics determine everything, such that one's fate is sealed at birth.
And so there becomes an assumption that one can't be a good batsman unless they have Imran Khan's sexy Punjabi genes, or Viv's big booty, or Tendulkar's calm demeanor, or Ambrose's height, or Lara's diet of Roti.
And biology and chance does determine alot. But for every Ubermensh like Khan there's a Gayle who succeeds despite a heart condition, or a Chanderpaul who makes 10,000 test runs despite a floating bone in his skinny little foot.

I was not aware that TD was in attack mode on me here. in fact I find a lot of what TD is saying to be very informative. I had no idea I had to fite him because of what he is saying.
Clyde Walcoot was a wicketkeper batsman. he was too big he had to give up keeping. the five best keepers west indies have had are all small men....
