Russia's surrender deadline in Mariupol expires as clashes continue in the Donbas region
Russia's ultimatum to Ukrainian troops in Mariupol to surrender or die expired on Wednesday with both sides unwilling to back down, according to Reuters. "We may have only a few days or hours left," Major Serhiy Volyna — the commander of Ukraine's 36th Marine Brigade — said in a video. Meanwhile, Russian forces have intensified their attacks in the Donbas region although, per US officials, there have been no major territorial gains for Russia in this latest push. Roughly five million Ukrainians have fled since the start of Russia's invasion, per the United Nations.
