I was curious to see where Kane Williamson's year ranks in history. Batsman scoring 1000+ runs in a calendar year has occurred 142 times. Willimason's average to date this year is 88.58 - this is the 9th highest average by a batsman scoring 1000+ runs in a year. The only batsman to score 1000+ runs in a year and finish with a higher average are Sobers, Bradman, Clarke, Ponting (twice), Mohammad Yousuf, Gavaskar and Richards.

Mathews goes, a big wicket for New Zealand. The game shifts back in their favour with Sri Lanka still requiring 240 more runs to win with 6 wickets in hand.

With Chandimal now back in the pavilion, I'd imagine Sri Lanka's thoughts of winning this game are now over and will instead hope they can find a way to bat out the day.

I wasn't aware just how well New Zealand have played at home as of late. They are now unbeaten at home in 12 Test matches - the second longest unbeaten home streak in their history. They last lost a Test at home to South Africa in March 2012 in Hamilton.
