It is either you are an agent provocateur, unwilling to widen your perspective or something else.


By definition Pan Africanism was necessary to show solidarity and it is admirable. However is there really Pan Africanism? Do you have Black people and nations coming together for a common good?


Being proud of ones' heritage is not tantamount to reverse racism and arrogance. Does it? In Vivian's case he made the term a very negative one by his comments and behaviour. Akram was not a Masser when he wanted to violate him with his bat, was he? If those things are positive for you then so be it.


Black kids do need role models and if Vivian was that for many then that is good if he has positively influenced others. Apart from his brilliance with the bat, many do not see his conduct as positive but we will have to agree to disagree as I am aware you see it differently.


However I suspect the likes of Kanhai and others of his ilk just get on with it choosing to elevate themselves by their deportment, their personal achievements in family life, industriousness and, in many cases, academic excellence.


Therefore to say Kanhai contributed nothing is erroneous. The likes of Mandella and Ghandi did not have to be aggressive to achieve a lot, did they?


In the context of this thread Kanhai was the first of a kind in his approach to the game. Vivian came after and similarly dominated and perhaps exceeded Kanhai but, as previously mentioned, comparing eras is not always possible if you only take uncovered pitches...

You are right, only the 1983 World Cup was a game in which Viv did not flourish. Only a West Indian and an Indian will remember that game. I even remember how he got out. He hit a high one on the leg side and Kapil Dev ran backwards to take the catch.

That ended Viv in the game and all visible signs of West Indies claiming their 3rd World Cup. Smile
