Re: Was Kallis better than Sobers? - ketchim - 12-27-2013 Sobers was versatile with the ball, bowling two styles of spin - left-arm orthodox and wrist spin, but was also a fine fast-medium opening bowler. His catching in the leg trap close to the wicket may have been equalled but never surpassed ! Sobers excelled at most athletic activities, playing golf, soccer and bastketball for Barbados : and made his first class debut at the age of 16, appearing in Tests a year later !! He set the Test record for an individual batsman with a mammoth 365 against Pakistan..... He was knighted for his services to cricket in 1975. ![]() The year Kallis was Born ! ![]() Born October 16, 1975, Pinelands, Cape Town, Cape Province , South Africa Re: Was Kallis better than Sobers? - ketchim - 12-27-2013 Kallis beeter tha Sobers for Hair Transplant :-[ Re: Was Kallis better than Sobers? - easyrider - 12-27-2013 Sad to see Kallis go. He is leaving the international stage in such an understated way. I just wished he had smiled a bit more. I would be surprised if he ever features in ODIs South Africa again as their OD schedule is infrequent. Excellent fielder, could be in the team as a bowler and an imperious batsman. Destructive but well capable of a patient inning. Really great man. Players these days do not have this luxury. 8 balls per over instead of 6 .......this only happened in Australia No helmets or arm guards ........ And? Travel by Boat instead of Airplane. ........they had many more tour games before the first test and in between. These days tourists do not have this offered. Stay at " coloreds" only motels instead of 5 star luxury hotel... .....wrong, wrong, wrong. et cetera , et cetera Some things are just NOT quantifiable ! ![]() [/quote] |
