WEST Indies batting legend, Sir Viv Richards, has called on talented young batsman Shimron Hetmyer to take a more mature approach to cricket, in order to realise and maximise his full potential. In the same breath, the iconic former batsman fondly referred to as the ‘Master Blaster,’ believes any failure by the player to do so would be a great loss not just to the West Indies, but the sport as a whole.

Shimron Hetmyer was hailed as the next big thing in Windies cricket. And while he may be partly to be blamed for his rather unbelievable decent into the cricketing doldrums, one gets the distinct impression that the powers that be do not want Hetmyer in Windies cricket anymore. And that would indeed be a tragedy as the potential is still there to be an amazing cricketer, over and above any other potential on the current horizon. Can the Guyana gov't take a page from Forbes Burnham a la Clive Lloyd and please bat for Hetmyer?

I must admit this is a silly move by Harper, it`s a 30 man squad and Hetmyer is not on the squad. I really find this difficult to understand a young player who has made mistakes in the pass but is showing improvement he did pretty well in the IPL. But not selecting him for a 30 man squad smacks of stupidity, I am sorry if there seems to be some kind of childish vindictiveness, I hope that I am wrong. I will leave with this question is this the way to build a relationship with our young talented players?
