De Beers diamond mining company in South Africa was established by Cecil John Rhodes in 1888.
Ernest Oppenheimer (22 May 1880 – 25 November 1957) managed to wrest control of Cecil Rhodes
De Beers empire and built and consolidated the company's global monopoly over the world's diamond industry..
He was involved in a number of controversies, including price fixing, antitrust behaviour and an allegation
of not releasing industrial diamonds for the US war effort during World War II.

A court in Milan is considering charges of corruption against Eni and Shell
in a controversial oil deal that led to Nigeria losing an estimated $6bn.
The campaign group Global Witness has calculated the OPL 245 deal in 2011
deprived Nigeria of double its annual education and healthcare budget.
Eni and Shell are accused of knowing the money they paid to Nigeria would be used for bribes.
The Italian and Anglo-Dutch energy giants deny any wrongdoing.

African countries seeking to reduce the cost, time and complexity of interregional and international trade in goods will gather for the First African Forum for National Trade Facilitation Committees in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 27–29 November.
The landmark event, organized by UNCTAD and seven partner organizations, comes as Africa scales up its trade easing efforts after the World Trade Organization’s Trade Facilitation Agreement entered into force in February 2017 and as it prepares to implement the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) signed in March 2018.
“The World Trade Organization calculates that current trade costs for developing countries are equivalent to applying a staggering 219% tariff on international trade, and this hurts Africa,” UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi said.

Goodluck Jonathan has accused the US administration under Barack Obama
of undermining his failed re-election bid in 2015.
Around the time of the election, Mr Obama made a video address directly to the Nigerian people
and sent his secretary of state, John Kerry, to Nigeria.
The former leader said that while he could not be held responsible for the abduction of 278 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok, he did not remove himself from blame for the failure of the security services to rescue the girls.
More than 100 of the abducted schoolgirls are still missing.

showing an African explorer conquering Europe in the 17th Century.
The advertising board said colonialism was "traumatic" for Africans
and was "not open for humorous exploitation".
Chicken Licken said the advertisement was "tongue-in-cheek"
and meant to create "pride" among South Africans.

to conquer his hunger for adventure.
His boat finally docks in Holland in 1651, and he says in South African slang:
"Hello, white folk. I like this place. I think I'll call it Eu...rope,"
before stomping his spear to signal the land's conquest.
The commercial ends with an elderly African man in a bow tie
leaving a Chicken Licken outlet, and saying:
"And that is the legend of Big John." :woohoo:
