only if you let them..accept meekly what they try to do to you. if you lawfully stand up and fight back there is nothing they can do save break the law themselves.
but fighting back does not end right there. it must go as far as it can within reason..report to the relevant authorities, even law suit for there is enough therein already to sue the cops for harassment

A Randolph County sheriff's deputy was injured during a hostage situation and shooting on Saturday in Alabama, police said. He was taken to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries, according to reports. A suspect who was reportedly armed with a handgun and a rifle was holding a hostage in a camper in the area near Lake Wedowee, after he allegedly set fire to his son's yard, house and car. He reportedly killed his son's dog during the course of the event. The standoff ended just after 5 p.m. Further details were not immediately available.
