The UK Bar is still steeped in old white male traditions and customs Maps. For years they tried to de-wig the British barrister but all in vain. But despite all of that it is a very diverse bar. I saw lots of Black, Indian other non-white barristers and of course tons of women in the profession.
With respect to Brixton. I was begining to see the yuppiefication of that area when I was there. Certain parts were being bought up and rented out at absurd rates.

Brixton reads like Yorkville, Broadview/Cabbage Town or Beaches area to me.....from ordinary and poor to gentrified and rich.

I used to watch Rumpole. Mortimer was a former Barrister so he made Rumpole and his life as a barrister as realistic as you can get on TV. Notwithstanding that, we used to watch some of these episodes in advocacy and moot classes to discuss all the mistakes they made in the court scenes. ::LOL::

Well there are two types of English lawyer Maps. There are Barristers and there are Solicitors. Barristers are trial lawyers that practice solely in courts. Solicitors are lawyers who represent the lay clients and who prepares the case for the Barrister when it's ready for court. The Solicitor therefore hires the Barrister to represent his/her lay client in court. A Barrister's only client is a Solicitor. They never represent lay clients directly.
Solicitors have law firms where more than one of them form partnerships. Barristers belong to law chambers where each barrister is an independent contractor within that chambers. The Barristers tend to make less than Solicitors, especially big firm solicitors.
So which one for you Maps? Wig wearing Barrister, or cufflink wearing solicitor? 8)
