Sure right Catty!
It is simply unbelievable.
However what is his management doing?
Personally I would have, immediately following the meeting with Richie and Otis, I would have emailed them confirming the conversation, including his contact with Butts, copying to Pybus et al!
In this media savvy age, these boys can tweet but seem to lack the basic acumen to at least preempt the WICB's incompetence!

I believe Powell is in the wrong, in this instance.
Powell was away from cricket and his average is poor. As Pybus said, Powell needs to make domestic runs and work his way back onto the team. Just because your daddy has connections, doesn't mean you can simply walk back onto the WI team.
Marlon Samuels was recently dropped following bad international performances as well, and he buckled down and earned his way back in.

TRINI,
What was he wrong for?
If it is advice to get back to grass roots cricket then, given his poor run, one can understand that but the real issue is the Coach and Manager did not follow due process in ensuring all knew about Kieran's request!
Cameron was unaware, Richard was unaware and that, once again, is down to poor communication.
In fact Butts, Gibson and Richardson should have advised him to take his break, get back to grass roots and work his way back given his poor form and that he will not be readmitted automatically!
All his reference to his father did not suggest, to me, he was using that a s leverage to support his statement.
In fact whether Powell was advised or not, he should know to get back to grass roots and make a point.
However all of this miscommunication just underpins the incompetence of the WICB at all levels and perhaps an inherent poor trait of West Indians.

I think he is wrong for being "deflated, confused and depressed" when not selected for the India tour and the A team tour of Sri Lanka. He wasn't making runs, wasn't playing cricket, and had no right to be on the teams. The WICB simply wasn't brave enough to tell him this to his face; only Pybus was.
I think he is is wrong for deeming this "non selection" a "roller coaster" and then taking "more time off" because of this. This makes his position even worse.
I think he is wrong for writing a letter which insinuates that the WICB is "ignoring him", when they clearly are coddling him. You don't get conference calls from Lloyd in September of last year saying "you are a future WI leader" when the WICB has "forgotten you".
Writing a publically released letter which states (or reminds people) that Cameron "said he wants me to be a future WI captain" is also in poor taste. You're pushing the WICB into a corner.
If you read carefully, there was no real miscommunication. Richardson told everyone that Powell was pulling out for "reasons". Only Lloyd didn't know, because the chairman of selector role changed from Butts to him. Cameron didn't know as well, but his role in the WICB doesn't really require him to know, and by the time the 2014 CPL rolled out, Cameron was made aware.
Judging from the letter, even Pybus knew Powell had "pulled out for reasons", Pybus just wasn't aware "why". Pybus asked "why" and asked Powell to make domestic runs, which is reasonable. Powell says Pybus' behaviour was "intrusive", but to me it is "commonsense". Pybus wants to ascertain Powell's seriousness and his level of commitment to WI cricket; knowing "why Powell pulled out" helps him ascertain this.

why all these WI players who don't perform always taking time off for personal reasons when not performing
and want automatic selection
