Brian Lara, former West Indian international cricket player asserted that the role of a leader is extremely crucial in the sport of cricket in determining the performance of the team. Speaking to Rajdeep Sardesai, editor-in-Chief, IBN18 Network, Lara said that a good leader should be inspirational and motivational enough to lead his team to victory. Agreeing with him, Ronnie Screwvala founder and CEO of UTV group also insisted that a good leader must lead the front.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Listen folks:
* Brian Lara was an extraordinary great---in the same league as Bradman, Sobers, Richards and Tendulkar.
* But Lara knows nothing about LEADERSHIP.
* He can talk about leadership and give his opinion but when he says "a good leader should be inspirational and motivational enough to lead his team to victory," Lara is talking HOGWASH.
* NOT EVEN GOD CAN LEAD THE #8 RANKED WI TEAM TO VICTORY REGULARLY until the WI has 4 batsman who average 40+ with the ball and 2 bowlers who averages less than 30 with the ball.
* Former GE CEO Jack Welsh once said, " before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.
* Lara was a great batsman---but never a leader---and he ought not be talking about leaders leading teams to victory.
* Like I said--if the WI were to have 4 40+ batsmen and 2 bowlers who average less than 30 with the ball and even Chairman would lead them to regular victories. ;D

Lara may not have been a good/ great leader in your opinion but it does not pre-empt him from identifying and relating the composite qualities of a great leader.
As it happens, I believe the qualities he mentioned are appropriate.
In terms of such a leader in a lowly ranked team and without talent then clearly it is quite difficult to achieve results but you may find more of a fight from that team because of inspiration and motivation. This is a restructuring phase.
With a team ranked higher and with better players those attributes will clearly add to better and sustained results.
If one looks at Border's role post 85, he bought those qualities to the fore in building a successful team over a reasonable period of time which then lead to a more dominant period. I am sure they were not ranked as lowly as 8 but the principle.
So I think those attributes are paramount for a great leader but it means different things for teams at different stages of development.

A good leader must lead from the back
by Trent Daddeh
Trinidad Guardian 2014
Denesh Ramdin, current West Indian Test captain, asserted that the role of a leader is extremely crucial in the sport of cricket. Speaking at a local curry fête in Trinidad and Tobago, Ramdin told reporters that a good leader should "take it easy, relax and", quote, "let the fellas do their own sh*t."
Ramdin's baffling sentiments echo ex West Indies Captain Darren Sammy who, prior to the 2014 T20 World Cup, expressed the view that "captains don't win matches, matches win catches." When asked to elaborate, Sammy began urinating into a urn and chanting the lyrics to Whitney Houston's "I'm Every Woman".
Currently, both cricketers are undergoing extensive counselling at an undisclosed mental health clinic.
