Kenya’s defeat at the hands of Afghanistan, to hand the country that was playing fifth-tier cricket five years ago their first World Cup qualification, clearly manifests how far our game has sunk.
It’s simply worrying.
After dismissing the 2003 World Cup semi-finalists for just 93 in the 44th over in United Arab Emirates on Friday, Afghanistan reached their target for the loss of only three wickets with 175 balls to spare.
The Afghans were to secure their passage to the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The victory was their second in succession against Kenya as they finished second in the World Cricket League Championship to join Ireland as the second Associate team in the 2015 World Cup.
Kenya still have a last qualifying chance in another tournament in January in New Zealand for the remaining two spots for Associates.
But as things look, they could still miss out if the right measures are not put in place in the team’s training and discipline.
It goes without saying that all has not been well in the team that has been wobbling in the World Cricket League Championship.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
