Sobers was 37 years old at that time..you could see his age in his movement.  he scored that ton from memory

And what a memory.

Keith Boyce bowled with very decent pace in that match.

Saw it and it was a good knock but the platform was laid well.

Coming into this Test we had hopes of levelling the series but it was not to be.

Julien also made a wonderful ton to place the pressure on the English batsmen.

Whatever happened to Julien?

Someone may correct me but I think this is the only test match where both Kanhai and Sobers made centuries.

On the Saturday of the test Lord's announced a bomb scare. The ground was not evacuated. Most spectators casually made their way onto the hallowed Lord's turf and the West Indian players (or most of them) just kinda hung around the pavilion steps.

An act by Boycott also left me shocked. Boycott was a player who eliminated all risk from his strokeplay. So as you can imagine a Boycott innings could be somewhat boring. In the second innings Boyce comes steaming in and drops it short. Boycott hooks and is caught at deep square leg. A quite surprising dismissal.

The last I heard of Julian was a piece in I think the Trinidad Express. As I recall it he was not well but I am not sure what he is (was) suffering from.

He was a player who never quite lived up to his early promise and unfortunately for him he was tagged as being the "next Sobers".

simple:  Julian Loved to Pary.  He was a tall, slim man as handsome as you meet in days travel.  he was mixed and light skin with gray eyes.  he had lots of ability, could do everything..including womanize and dance.

the man had real trouble dealing with the content of his life..TOO MUCH GOOD IN HIS LIFE.  HE COULD NO. DECIDE BETWEEN ALL HE LOVED AND COULD DO WELL

Julien's cricket suffered.  he had competition..Colis King...who had no such 'natural' choices..only wanted to play cricket.  King turned out  to be more reliable I guess.

anyway..thats the story as I have it...no doub there is much more to it than that

Julian had the inside track but I cannot recall when the wheels fell off his wagon.

Bernard Julien battles throat cancer Cricinfo staff

Bernard Julien: cancer battle © The Cricketer
The former West Indies Test allrounder Bernard Julien is battling throat cancer, according to a report in the Trinidad Express newspaper.
Julien, 54, was diagnosed almost a year ago. He had been working as a government coach in Trinidad & Tobago, but had to stop because of persistent coughing and a lump in his throat.
He is determined to beat the disease, and doctors have apparently given him a 90% chance of doing so, provided he takes his medication and stops drinking and smoking. "I want to live. It is life you are talking about," he was quoted as saying. "I want to beat this thing. I am not giving up."
Julien, who played for Kent as well as T&T, was a lively left-arm fast bowler and an attacking right-hand batsman. He took 50 wickets in 24 Tests, and also scored 866 runs, with two centuries - the first of them a memorable 121, as Garry Sobers stroked 150, in the Lord's Test of 1973. Julien was also a member of the West Indian side that won the first World Cup, in 1975.

Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of AT&T Stadium, otherwise known as “Jerry World,” is the glare from the sun that bursts through the windows and shines directly onto the field. Time and time again the glare has impacted players’ visibility during games, yet Jerry Jones refuses to make any changes to account for the sun.

Rather than install curtains, Jones has previously said he feels it’s a home-field advantage to have that type of stadium factor impacting games. Well, the glare ended up benefitting the Chiefs early into Thursday’s Thanksgiving game, as a pass from Dak Prescott to George Pickens fell incomplete, at least in part due to the impact of the sun’s glare.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.

But you have to be able to be grateful for your role...my role right now is to assist Russ and Jaxson to be the best that they can be while preparing to be the best that I can be.

No matter if I'm 3, 33, this is my first year being number 19, so it's always a first for everything.
