Underlining that it does not expect to win the 2020 general elections, ANUG yesterday said its capturing of a small number of seats at the March 2nd elections would help to force the two major parties to work together and it also proposed a rotating presidency and that ministers of government not be Members of Parliament.

Exactly, that's the said reason, it's beyond me why the AFC coalesced with the APNU, when there is more power in standing alone, dangling their decisive votes in parliament, before the two major parties, rather than looking like a traitor now to their voters... Ramjattan is a confused person...

Ramjattan is not confused. He chose to become a stronger advocate of PNC's values (hold onto power at all costs) than PNC leaders themselves. Ramjattan will be a stronger defender of PNC than Granger. All the values that AFC stood for went out the window. If ever there was a Sellout in Guyana's politics this is it - the mother of all Sellouts. This Sellout is bigger than the Oil Contract sellout.

It will be grid lock only if t he party winning the plurality decides they are going to continue doing business in autocratic undemocratic ways. Our elections generally create elected dictatorship with the executive being a de facto one person ruler.

That must change for progress to come. Otherwise the usual ethnic stalemate continues and the winning party continues in its friends and family according to clan color continues. Look at the current regime; every important role is held by a black person; government largess is being doled out differentially for black folks etc. The same was the case with the PPP. This disgusting naked, in your face bigotry as normal for government cannot continue

Guyana does not belong to black or brown people but to all of us. Either of these tribal parties winning an absolute majority means we will have a government with one entire group on the sidelines.

As the sod was turned yesterday for a US$100M investment on 20 acres of land at Ogle, NICIL announced that it was only part of a grand “City of Ogle” project spanning some 800 acres going all the way to Lusignan.

The East Coast area, according to the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), will have an AC Marriott Hotel, two other internationally-branded hotels, a specialty hospital in the form of a cardiology services centre and a housing development similar to the East Bank of Demerara Windsor Estates.

Confident that his US$100M Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre project will thrive and insisting that he isn’t threatened by branded hotels being established here, hotelier Robert Badal yesterday blazed both the past and current governments for what he called the “alienation” and discriminatory treatment of local investors.

“The local private sector is discriminated against. We are treated as aliens when it comes to investment opportunities by governments. It is the same policy that the PPP/C had and the APNU+AFC is doing the same,” Badal told Stabroek News.
