Supporters of the APNU+AFC coalition must be prepared to play their part at the close of polls on elections day and be ready to guard against any interference during the counting of ballots at polling stations, Chair of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Volda Lawrence told a gathering at Kitty Market Square last night.
Lawrence told supporters that after voting for the general and regional elections is closed at 6 pm on March 2, they must be ready to work the “nightshift” and be watchful during the tabulation of ballots.
“And after 6 o clock hit, comrades, you should already have your bath and put on your nightshift clothing. You understand what I am saying comrades? This is not a time to be caught sleeping; they must not catch us sleeping. At 6 o clock, you return to work at the places of polling and you will remain out there and let our staff inside know you are out there; just let them know everything is covered APNU+ AFC,” Lawrence said. The PNCR is the largest constituent of APNU.

Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) leader Lenox Shuman remains at loggerheads with members of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) over whether he was eligible for inclusion on his party’s list of candidates on Nomination Day.
While Shuman yesterday said he had submitted proof that he no longer held Canadian citizenship at the time, members of the Commission told reporters that they were not in receipt of his evidence.
At a press conference held at his party’s Cowan Street headquarters, Shuman told reporters that he renounced his allegiance to Canada on December 11th and yesterday received “a copy of a certificate” from the Canadian High Commission showing that his renunciation was completed on January 9th, one day before the January 10th Nomination Day.

Aiming to change the quality of life for Guyanese, newcomer to the political arena, Change Guyana presidential candidate, Robert Badal, on Tuesday unveiled his party’s manifesto, which he said focuses heavily on “putting more money in your pockets.”
Badal, at the Party’s weekly press conference at the Pegasus Hotel, said the manifesto was moulded to address the daily issues faced by Guyanese.
“All the ideas in the Change Guyana [manifesto we were able] to think through all the programmes of today and come [up] with pragmatic and practical solutions. It was based on number of principles that affected life and created the economic underdevelopment in this country. Our manifesto brings a new level of strategic thinking, it outlines a plan for a more balanced development and more regional development rather than development only in Georgetown,” Badal said, as he referred to the manifesto as a “a list of deliverables.”
